Sonia: Women's contribution important for country

New Delhi, Mar 7 : Asserting that Women's issues remained closed to her heart during the ten years she had been the Congress President, Sonia Gandhi today said the fairer sex played an important role in the development of the country and its future now largely depended on their contribution.

"India's achievements in the past decade would not have been possible without women's contributions, just as fulfillment of our dreams and hopes for the future will depend largely on women's participation,"she said in her message to the souvenir titled "Priyadarshini-2009", brought out by the Mahila Congress.

"In the ten years that I have been Congress President, women's issues have always been especially close to my heart, and have been given high priority by both the party and the UPA government," Gandhi said.
