Staunch Sonia `bhakt' now in Maya brigade

LUCKNOW: Remember the person atop an SUV, pointing a gun on his forehead, threatening to shoot himself if Congress president Sonia Gandhi refuses to become prime minister after 2004 Lok Sabha elections?

The drama staged outside Gandhi's house in Delhi was broadcast live by news channels. Well, this `die-hard' supporter of Gandhi is now a `bhakt' of Mayawati.

On Sunday, former MP Ganga Charan Rajput joined BSP. A known party-hopper, who always likes to be with party in power, Rajput has been in various parties in the past from Janta Dal to BJP and from Congress to SP.

Now he has `promised' to support chief minister Mayawati and has taken a pledge to make her prime minister of the country. From the drama staged outside Congress president's house to swearing allegiance to BSP supremo -- the two common factors are Rajput and prime minister.

Meanwhile, Akhilesh Das, BSP general secretary and candidate for Lok Sabha elections from Lucknow, said that several local leaders of Congress have joined BSP and have pledged to ensure its victory in the coming Lok Sabha elections.

He also conducted several public meetings in the city as part of his campaign and announced that BSP government is committed for the development of the city.
