‘Rahul has done a lot for people’

Amethi, Apr 11 : Congress’ star campaigner Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Saturday kick-started electioneering from Amethi, urging the voters to vote for the party.

Priyanka is the poll manager for her mother Sonia and brother Rahul, who represent Amethi and Raebareli, respectively, in the Lok Sabha.

Addressing a rally in Furshatganz, Priyanka outlined the development work done by her brother Rahul Gandhi and said, “Rahul has done a lot for the people.”

She cited the works done in the field of education and health, including a hospital in Munshiganj.

In a not so curtailed indication of the rift between the Congress and the Bahujan Samaj Party, the younger Gandhi sibling said, “As you know, the state government has not been of much help in carrying out development projects and whatever work has been done is with the Centre’s help.”

Terming the place as her father Rajiv Gandhi’s Karbhoomi, she struck an emotional chord when she said, “You have given a lot of love and support and I don’t want to insult your love by asking for votes,” and added, “We will always be grateful to you.”

The Gandhi sibling exhorted the people to vote for someone who looks after them. “In this election drama a lot of people will come and ask for your votes on the basis of religion and caste. It is for you to decide whom to vote,” she said.
