Rahul takes a dig at NDA on terrorism

Rahul GandhiSonepur (Orissa), Apr 9  Taking a dig at the NDA for criticising UPA on the issue of terrorism, Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi asked the BJP-led alliance to remember that there were a number of attacks, including one on Parliament, during its rule.

“NDA is raking up the issue of terrorism in the run up to elections but it should realise there were so many attacks, including one on Parliament House by terrorists when it was in power,” the Congress leader told an election meeting here.
A plane was also hijacked by terrorists during the NDA rule to Kandahar, he said and added that a senior minister was also sent there in order to secure release of the hostages.

Dubbing the Opposition a divided house in their race for grabbing power, Rahul alleged they were never sincere about working for the poor and the downtrodden.

The UPA government, on the other hand, sincerely worked for the welfare of the tribals, farmers and the poor, he said adding that a host of programmes like National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) introduced by the Congress-led coalition would play a key role in eradicating poverty.

Slamming the BJD government in Orissa, Gandhi alleged development took a back seat and tourism was neglected.

The young leader mingled with the crowd after breaking security cordon and shook hands with people.
