Former Congress MP served show-cause for anti-party activities

Shillong, Jul 30 (PTI) Former Congress MP O L Nongtdu was today served a show-cause notice by the state party unit's disciplinary wing for alleged anti-party activities.The disciplinary action wing of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) headed by P W Muktieh took cognisance of media reports which quoted Nongtdu as saying that the recent election to the post of MPCC president was "manipulated".

"There was lot of ill-feeling on the day of filing the nomination. I was asked to go for consensus," Nongtdu was quoted as saying by a section of the media.The disciplinary committee, in the show-cause, asked Nongtdu to clarify if the statements that appeared in the media were true and why he did not give in any clarification if they were false.

Nongtdu, a former Rajya Sabha MP and also a former MPCC president, has been asked to reply within August 12.

Friday Lyngdoh was on July 21 re-elected unopposed as the president of MPCC.In 2008, the octogenarian Lyngdoh was appointed MPCC president by AICC president Sonia Gandhi after replacing Nongtdu in a bid to strengthen the party.
