Attended by chief minister Tarun Gogoi, APCC president Bhubaneshwar Kalita, health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and other ministers, the Samaroh was organized to unite and promote the youth power of Congress before the elections. The Congress even hinted to give a major share of seats to youths in the coming assembly elections.
"It's very obvious that the youngsters play an important role in shaping a society towards development with innovative and forward-looking philosophies. Even Congress is focusing on their importance in the present scenario of politics in the country. This time, there will be many new faces in the poll arena," said the chief minister.
Assam Pradesh Youth Congress spokesperson Sahidul Islam added that the youth wing is going to get 40 per cent seats in the coming elections. "We will ask 35 seats for us as part of reservation in the polls. We hope to get the numbers as the chief minister has promised us to do so," said Islam.
On the other hand, health minister and state government spokesperson Himanta Biswa Sarma accused the opposition parties of misguiding the people by bringing false allegations against him on assets. He appealed to youths of the state to vote for Congress and make this government win for the third time. APCC president Bhubaneshwar Kalita claimed that Congress would once again come to power. However, he insisted all the parties to come for an open discussion on corruption.
Apart from the Congress leaders, more than 5,000 office-bearers from various districts of Assam took part in the Samaroh.
