Congress manifesto announced in Tripura

AGARTALA, Jan 28 – The Congress-INPT combine on Sunday unveiled the 32-page manifesto for the ensuing Assembly elections slated for February 14 next.

In the jumbo manifesto, the Congress-INPT alliance focused on various fields including poverty alleviation, employment, welfare schemes for employees, pensioners, ST, OBC and students. It also promises stringent measures to prevent corruption or corrupt practices.

Unveiling the manifesto, AICC general secretary Luizinho Faleiro said all the people under very poor category will be provided seven kg rice per head free of cost. The others will also be ensured 35 kg rice per card per month at the cost of Rs 1 through the ration shops.

As many as 150 man-days will be provided to each labour card holder annually under the national flagship scheme- MGNREGA while the wages will be enhanced from Rs 120 to Rs 200, he said.

Aiming to pour balm on the wounds of unemployed youths, the Congress-INPT combine would provide unemployment allowances.

“Special measures will be initiated to provide employment to at least one educated or semi-educated unemployed member of each family”, he said.

Rejecting the Left Front Government’s claim of ban on fresh recruitment, Faleiro said the UPA Government had not issued such instruction for Tripura.

“Vacant posts under different government departments will be filled up and a realistic employment policy will be adopted if the combine is voted to power”, he said.

Besides, a School Service Commission will be set up to maintain fairness in the selection of teachers.

Flanked by PCC president Sudip Roy Barman and CLP leader Ratan Lal Nath, Faleiro said Central pay scales to all levels of state government employees will be implemented expeditiously and retirement age of Group D employees will be increased by two years.

He further said suitable policy would be introduced to regularise the non-regular employees.

“ Efforts will be made in phased manner to regularise services of people engaged as SSA teachers, GRS and computer teachers”, he said.

To ensure corruption free governance, he said there would be initiative to set up anti-corruption wing at

subdivisional level in order

to check corruption or malpractice.

“Necessary steps will be taken to strengthen the Lokayukta Act”, he added.
