Nandan Nilekani, the chairman of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), is likely to take an electoral plunge by joining the Congress.

Sources say Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi is keen on roping in Nilekani for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. Rahul wants Nilekani, also the co-founder of Infosys, to contest the election from Bangalore South constituency.

While Nilekani termed “speculative” the talks about his jumping into poll fray, Congress sources say he has been getting feelers from the party which wants to field him as a candidate.

Nilekani quit Infosys in June 2009 to join UIDAI as its chairman. He was given the rank of a cabinet minister. Bangalore South is currently represented by senior BJP leader Ananth Kumar.
