“Congress has decided to contest on 37 seats in Bihar. Coalition dharma has been violated and we are upset with this.
We have no alliance with Laluji as of now," said senior Congress leader Sushil Kumar Shinde, who heads the Screening Committee for selecting party candidates from the state.
‘RJD and LJP took decision unilaterally to share the seats, leaving just three to us. Now we are leaving just three seats – two of which on Laluji is fighting and Paswanji from another,’ added Shinde.
“Earlier, we were just asking for 6-7 seats, but they left only three without consulting us. This made our workers infuriated,” said Shinde, “last time, we fought on four seats and won three, and this time they offered us just three. It was totally an insult to Congress.”
“They took a unilateral decision of sharing a major chunk of 37 seats between RJD and LJP and it was only through the press that we came to know about it,” added Shinde.
Answering a question on the fate of UPA alliance in Centre, Shinde said, “This has nothing to do with the UPA government. It is intact. This is the business of the political parties; nothing to do with UPA.”
It not only enraged Congress, but also Sadhu Yadav – a former RJD leader and brother-in-law of Lalu Yadav – who now joined Congress. He was unhappy for not finding his name in the list of candidates for his likes of two different constituencies.
Sadhu Yadav, on Saturday, met Congress president Sonia Gandhi for the first time in New Delhi after his induction into the party, and encouraged her that Congress could win more seats in Bihar.
After meeting Gandhi, Yadav met media persons and expressed his confidence on Sonia and Congress party, and assured to do his best so that Congress would win more seats in Bihar.
Elections in Bihar are to be held in four phases on April 16, 23, 30 and on May 7.
