First Congress list likely by Tuesday

JAIPUR, Mar 17 : The senior Congress leaders from the state are in Delhi, participating in various meetings before finalising the list of candidates for the Lok Sabha polls.

The much-awaited first list of the party is expected to be announced by Tuesday, depending on meetings of the screening committee and Central Election Committee (CEC).

According to sources, meeting of the screening committee was postponed twice over the week-end. Now, it is likely to be held on Monday. It is only after a meeting with the CEC that the first list of the party would be declared. The senior leaders of the party are said to have finalized the names of candidates for 12 seats, for which the final nod of the CEC is awaited.

“We have been ready with our list of probables for some time now and it is only a matter of time now, before the first list is announced. The second list too would follow closely,’’ said a senior Congress leader.

Sources in the party claim that the list will include the names of Bhanwar Jeetendra Singh from Alwar, Mahesh Joshi from Jaipur City and Tarachand Bhagora from Dungarpur-Baswara among others.

Union minister for mines Sis Ram Ola, who is the sitting MP from Jhunjhunu might make way for his daughter-in-law Rajbala from the same seat. The Pali seat is likely to go to the Maderna family, with the party likely to field either Mahipal Maderna’s wife Leela or his daughter Divya from there.

Other names which are included in the panel of probable candidates are Dr C P Joshi and Girija Vyas for Chittorgarh and Rajsamand, respectively, while despite reports that Sachin Pilot is likely to contest from Uttar Pradesh or South Delhi, his name figures in the panels for Jaipur rural and Ajmer.

“Pilot is one of the most prominent young MPs from the state and we have not ruled out his name from the list of probables. He is most likely to contest from Ajmer while Lalchand Kataria is likely to contest from Jaipur rural,’’ said a member.
