Left leaders are armchair critics: Congress

New Delhi, Mar 17 : Lashing out at Communist parties for "hypocritically" accusing the Manmohan Singh government of being pro-rich, the Congress on Monday said the Left leaders "revel to be perennial armchair critics." < P>Special: Lok Sabha elections 2009

"The Left parties protest too much. They protest falsely, unfairly and (are) hypocritical in criticising the government. The Left ignores the fact that never ever in the history has India had such an all inclusive, pro-poor government with its focus on common man," Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi told reporters.

Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) general secretary Prakash Karat earlier in the day accused the Manmohan Singh government of pursuing pro-rich policies.

"We place the (United Progressive Alliance) UPA squarely responsible for this unacceptable growing divide between a handful of rich people and vast masses of our people," Karat told the media.

Criticising the CPI-M on their perspective of governance, Singhvi said: "Left lacks a vision of governance for the country."
